Scope Out π
Scope Out is a new project starting in 2026!
Co-designing a legacy for Romford!
Scope Out is a series of free creative events for the LGBTQ+ community ages 25 and over.
We want to make Romford more colourful and inviting by placing small welcoming stickers, indicating that the LGBTQ+ community are safe here. We also want to accompany this with a pamphlet for businesses to spot and act on homophobic incidences. Scope Out will consist of five different meet ups with local LGBTQ+ people to build on our existing community and build towards making Romford more inclusive.
Friday 30 January - Karaoke β led by Drag artist Chamonix Aspen, queer-led karaoke will finally come to Romford!
Thursday 26 February - Creative Expression β a workshop inviting participants to express their emotions through creativity, focusing on mental well-being.
Thursday 26 March - Climbing session at Romford Rock and Boulder β an opportunity to try bouldering, open to all abilities.
Thursday 23 April - History vision workshop β a creative session exploring LGBTQ+ history and visions for the Pride stickers that will be placed across Romford
Thursday 21 May - Stickers and Pamphlet design - the final monthly session will focus on designing the Pride stickers and FAQ pamphlet for local businesses.
FAQ -
I am under 25, can I come along? - Unfortunately not, Scope Out was founded to fill the gap for social meet ups for anyone over the age of 25. Instead, why not come along to Kaleidoscope! A social group running the first Tuesday of every month at Lumiere for 17-24s!
What if I am not creative/canβt sing? - We don't believe in not being creative! But if making art isn't for you, come along and enjoy the atmosphere. We won't force you to participate in anything, and you will still have your chance to let us know what you'd like to see more of in Havering.
Do I need to attend all sessions? - Not at all, it would be great if you did but sometimes life gets in the way!
How much is it? - Free
If I book a ticket and can't make it, does it matter? - If you can no longer make the event and have booked a ticket, please cancel. It allows us to manage expectations and ensure that everyone who is able to go can book a space.
Is the venue accessible? - For those visitors who require step-free access to the cinema, this is available via the Mercury Shopping Centre lifts on Level 1 (outside the public WCs) or Level 2 (outside Poundland).
Take the lift to Level 3, as if you were going to Mecca Bingo. On leaving the lift, take a sharp left and you'll find a silver set of doors to the left of the Mecca entrance. Ring the black doorbell and a member of Lumiere staff will let you in.
From here all screens have step-free access, as does their accessible bathroom.
I have food allergies, who do I talk to? Send Carrie an email here - kaleidoscoperomford@gmail.com if you have any concerns. We will ensure there is a gluten free and vegan option in the snacks.
